Develop Your Core to Become A Better Runner

It is wonderful to see so many runners outside at the moment. My concern is that looking at form many are starting out to quickly – if you are starting out please look at our Couch to 5k, it will be a much healthier way for you to get into running as a new sport.

There are key areas that we see week in and week out that runners struggle with;

Technique – running is a technical sport so form is key

Mobility – restrictions in your soft tissues can affect your ability to hold good form

Strength – your strength to cope with holding good form means you fight your way through a run, it looks and feels hard work but it does not need to be that way.

These key exercises will help get your hips and core stronger to help you get the most out of your training sessions and longer runs. You can complete them after a run or on a non running day, your call but you need to get simple strength training in to prevent injuries and maintain form.

Sets and reps are simple;

Post Run – x2 sets of 30 seconds of work

Non Run Days – x4 sets of 30 seconds work

If you feel good; then build the time up but remember form is key – if form dips then you are not completing the exercise well continue at your current level.
