Building core strength is important for runners as they work to stabilize your spine preventing you from twisting side to side when running. Without a strong core, your legs may try to overcompensate to try stabilising you – but this can slow you down. Having a strong core also helps you maintain your form for longer, which in turn makes you a more efficient runner with improved performance.
Your core also plays a key in injury prevention. The lack of stability that comes with a weak core puts strain on other areas of your body, such as your knees, lower back, hips and knees, making the venerable and susceptible to injuries.
